Well i'm totally new to linux and am having some difficulties with the installation due to lack of documentation. Ive installed zipslack on my machine and it seems to be fine first time i installed. It gets to the logon prompt and i logon using password root. But where the hell do i go from here. I believe as i downloaded the zipslack version i have to download a load more things now but i cant seem to find out what i really need to make my basic system. Obviously I want my desktop managment system probably either that KDE or Gnome at a guess but i also think i need to install xp86config whatever the hell that is. I have not been through anysort of setup process yet, all i did was boot the system from dos by simply typing linux.bat and away it went.
Can anyone give me some more information about stage 2. And please remember I'm a noobie to all this.
You would probably get an answer a lot faster if you asked a moderator to move this thread into the Software/General/Newbie forum. This forum is dedicated to the Linux From Scratch project. Not too many people wander around here, and that just means fewer people will see your post.
What you have with ZipSlack is a good set of command line Linux tools.
If you are wanting all the bells and whistles it needs quite a bit added.
The Slackware book can help you with some things. http://www.slackware.com/book/
Yeah, this thread needs to be moved. Go to the /x subdirectory of a slack mirror and download the stuff to a directory on your hard drive. Then 'installpkg' in that directory. Download a window manager. 'Installpkg' again. Bang - X for ZipSlack.
