YOPER 2.1 - evaluation

As part of my continuing evaluation of linux distros, I tackled Yoper 2.1
recently.
First the installation was somewhat difficult, any newbie or semi-newbie
would be in serious trouble. The installer is antiquated looking and uses
the GOD-AWFUL cfdisk partitioner. Why anybody uses this instead of
QT-PARTED is beyond me. My experience has been that when a distro has a crappy looking installer with requests for info that a lot of people are
not going to know, it usally is a disaster. Many upon booting from the
hard drive just boot to a prompt and DO NOT load X.
Well to my surprise,on my second attempt at installing it, i met with
success. Of course during the boot up came the moment of truth for me,
COULD I LOG IN AS ROOT. If not ,Yoper would be tossed into the
trash can with a lot of other distros.
Hosanna!!, it did !! So now it has a permanent place on one of my hard
drives along with four others. Yoper has all the programs that i need
and works well.

I'm quite fond of cfdisk myself, it's qt-parted that worries me... Sure, it looks pretty with all these red and green bars and what-not, but when it actually comes to making partitions, I find it much easier to use cfdisk. In fact I had a couple of cases where I'd find partition boundaries somewhat mis-aligned after using qt-parted. Coincidence? Perhaps, but after this experience I just stick to good ole cfdisk - it might not be the best looking, but it is simple and it works.

Of course, the real men use fdisk
