okay, going through this forum as a newbee i have seen a few names of linux operating systems(i think they are at least), ones like redhat, slackware, mandrake, ect... what is the best version that i as a newbee especially should be using. and do you have to find another porgram so you can have a graphical interface?
This is a question asked by all new comers. I have heard that Mandrake is easy to use, but personally I use RedHat and have never favoured another one. hough I am newbie , I do all of my work on Linux(programming, songs, browsing) and almost never boot into windows.
Mandrake is based on RedHat and so, if you start with RH then you have no problem at all. Also, RH gives you the option for nice gui administration and also same command-line admin like other *ix.
Finally, its your choice, and if you jump int slack straight away , you are the winner!
