vi -> vim alias under red hat 7.3

This is driving me nutz now. Does anyone know where vi is being aliased to vim under 7.3? I try to override it under my .bashrc file but it won't go. I've looked at /etc/profile, /etc/bashrc and nothing.

$ alias |grep vi
alias vi='vim'

$ which vi
alias vi='vim'
/usr/bin/vim

TIA

No, /bin/vi is its own file - vi is being aliased to vim (see original post). I just can't for the life of me figure out where from, so that I can kill it.

Vim is great, but It looks terrible to have syntax coloring on a dark background.
