Using Evolution with MS Exchange server

I want to be able to use Evolution to get email from my company's MS Exchange 2000 server. The sys admin here said I would have to Ximian Exchange connector and Redcarpet and subscribe to a channel or something or other. That sounds like a big pain in the rear. Is there an easier way?
