Question Ubuntu Question about the 64-bit repositories....

I've been trying this afternoon Ubuntu for AMD64... I looks quite nice, it is fast and the installer is simple and accurate. But most dev packages are not installed by default, and many software is outdates in the repositories, and KDE is not availible in the repositories. Does this happends only in the 64 bit version? Maybe i'll try the 32 bit thingie...
