SuSE updates disk or FTP?

Does anyone know if is possible to upgrade a CD (8.0) installation (to8.1) using FTP? It seems that it is not possible to do a version upgrade without buying the disks.

I have 8.0 on CD and 8.1 as a download on suse81/suse/i386......

I have a 8.1 download off the ftp site which has worked very well but I am not sure if I will be able to upgrade to 8.2 (when available) using the ftp/harddrive route.

My immediate problems is that I have a version8.0 on a server and need to upgrade to 8.1. (Some one has lost the 8.0 disk1 :-( ). Using the 11Gb 8.1 harddisk download does not allow me to upgrade my version and asks me for the cd's each time or wants me to overwrite my installation. It this just a problem with the 8.1 upgrade or is this a cunning ploy to make me go out and buy the 8.1 disto. Not that I would mind as i think that suse gives me good value its just that i am tight! :-)

You need to do this to start an ftp update:
http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/81_ftp_update.html
basically type "suse_update" and then just follow instructions on
how to perform a regular ftp install which you'll need to lookup.

I always just buy the "update" versions.

It's harder to find in the US.
