There are questions about this all the time once Suse releases a new version and the answer is always the same : there are no other legally distributed ISO's of Suse - be it on the net or on CD's than the one's you can buy.
And don't start about GPL and stuff - for that they got a ftp download.
Distribution: Currently Fedora B3, Will try Gentoo 1.4

There's a live evaluation version, but I don't know if it's for the latest release. I tought I downloaded some months ago 8.2 live-eval and it booted fine, like knoppix. Mainly a "hm-i-like-suse-so-im-going-to-buy-it" system.
I downloaded and burned the version 9.0 demo from their ftp site to try out with my hardware because I am having trouble with my installation of 8.0. It hung on some of the hardware (not sure which), although Knoppix runs fine.
Meanwhile I started a Debian install last night, will pick up where I left off later today...
You can get them with bit torrent. The torrent file it's self can be found here [edit]link removed[/url]
I don't see what the big deal is, they offer it for free via FTP anyway, and the GPL allows for free redistribution provided any non GPL software is removed.
//moderator.note: after posting my reply I saw this post being reported, so I took the liberty to remove the link. I hope you understand.

You reverse argumentation of the GPL wrt distribution is no excuse for distributing a commercial distro through P2P networks. As moderator I'm asking you to remove your suggestion and link on the grounds that P2P networks are mainly associated with warez versions of about anything. LQ doesn't want to be associated with, or provide links for warez peddlers. The whole subject of warez is against the LQ rules and the general idea of OSS anyway.
I don't think that everything that SuSE puts on those CDs is under the GPL. As I understand it, they add their commercial products onto the GPL packages and sell that, so the whole CD is not free to distribute without cost.
Thanks for taking the time to reply, infornography.
I certainly didn't intend to encourage illegal activity.
Have a look at SuSE.com. SuSE 9 professional costs USD 80 single seat license and SuSE desktop costs over USD 500 for a five seat license. Next, note there is NO official SuSE ISO (I know of) except for the Live Eval cd. Adding these facts up you should conclude offering a SuSE 9 5-cd set on Bittorrent isn't in line with how SuSE wants their commercial distribution to be distributed. Else they would have done that themselves by offering ISO's instead of FTP. (Also you cannot deny P2P popularity is not based on "legal" offerings but illegal ones. I'm not saying I'm against any P2P, in the "grand scheme" I tend to see P2P more along the lines of "aiding and abetting", it's just that any argument dismissing the fact P2P is based on illegal content is so dishonest it's almost funny.)
While what I suggested may be considered unethical by some, it is not illegal under the GPL.
Without going into too much detail, the GPL should not be used as an argument in favour when distributing material that wasn't meant to be distributed tru P2P channels is concerned. I do consider this an ethical issue, but IMHO this is not the place nor thread to start a debate on ethics. If you're interested in debating ethics, BMG, set up a thread in /General. If it's an issue we haven't covered yet and isn't bound to become a fatally flawed discussion, I'm bound to join in.
Anyway it's your board, you may sensor it's content as you see fit.
It is not my board, it's Jeremy's board. Any moderation by me is subject to rules, and those rules are not made by me OTF. Of course you're invited to email me if you want to dispute any of my moderation actions.
I apologise if I inadvertently broke the rules.
Accepted. FWIW, by having the guts to apologise you deserve my respect anyway. Let's consider the issue closed, because I think the point is clear: LQ doesn't want to be associated with, deal with, link to or have to answer questions on warez or related subjects.

I am the one that ratted you out.I got nothing against p2p for that matter.Don't care if Suse or the latest blockbuster movie is on there and anyones hard drive either.
The thing is that it is not legal to share Suse iso's - it's just like that.
I don't want LNO get into any trouble about stuff like this.
If anybody wants to get Suse from p2p and doesn't know how to do that he's lost anyway.

Ay caramba,
is this a case
of mas tequila? :-]
Naahh- not today.Don't even ask about the last two days!
Thing is that it seems like websites can get in trouble lately if they link to illegal content depending on where they are at.Being in the US for LNO it is probably not a good idea to do this.
Skol!!!
BTW - next weekend it will be Heineken in NYC - I hope
Oh - god! I'll stay away from that stuff for the rest of my life! How did this happen?
Probably need to reformat my brain and try another file system while I'm at it.
