Suse 9 NVidia problem...

I just installed SuSE 9.
I got no errors, the install was easy.

SuSE is great!

But I have a few problems:

1) the screen was at 1280x1024 so I changed it to 1024x768... It looks a bit wierd.
2) I choose Gnoom instead of KDE and I got a message saying that I'm not really using gnoom but that I'm using KDE.
3) I tried to play tuxracer, and couldn't... I got an error.
While I was installing the only thing that was wrong was that SuSE detected my graphics card, but said that harware acceleartion was disabled.

The error I get says the same thing.
How do I enable it?

(In the attach there is a screenshot)

4) SuSE detected my internet settings and I tested them by updating.
I got ALL the updates... including the kernel for AMD Athalon.

Well that's fine, only I had a little message while it was installing saying that I should re-compile the kernel modules or something If I use it.

5) Its a bit slow.
Yap, Its generaly a bit slow.

Note: this is the first time I am using SuSE after the install.
After the install was over I just went into the login.

I did NOT restart the computer yet...
Maybe that fact helps?

thanks for your help

EDIT: I could not post a screenshot of the error I got. so here is a text copy of the error window I got:

Warning...

3D hardware support not avalible
----------------------------------

No 3D graphics card avaliable or 3D support not configured yet.
However application uses respectively requires 3D harware support.

Regarding the 3d Hardware Support:

If you have already downloaded the Nvidia diriver from with "YOU" (do you see the Nvidia logo splash screen?), it should be enabled in SaX2 to work. Goto Yast > Hardware > Graphics Card and Monitor and enable the 3d support there.

btw, mine still lists the 3d Acceleration as 'disabled', but it does work (judging from the OpenGL screensavers). Shrug....

BUMER!

I tried to do what you said... I can't.

I get this error:

Monitor UnKnown

Monitor (0) with ID: AOCA781 NOT FOUND
-------------------------------------------

Please setup your monitor manually.
Do you want to start the configuration dialog to setup the display now?

Yes No

so I try to setup the monitor... and I tried a lot of settings and every time I get that error afterwards.

And when I try to enable the 3D accelaration it starts the test and then says that the monitor(s) found don't have a usable configuration...

help me please!

Just choose a Vesa monitor, my Proview wasn't recognised, but I still get 3-D acceleration.

I tried that already!
DID NOT WORK!

Its wierd.
I get the error when I enter the Monitor settings.

when I pick a Vesa monitor (I tried all resualotions) and test it it works.
When I click finlaize it gives me the error again!

I mange to change the monitor...
But when I want to enable 3D acceleration and go to the test there, the test crashes.

and says that it found monitor(s) but the configuration was unuasable.

I'm afraid to enable 3D acceleration without the test working

please help!
