suse 9.1 pro install problems with iso's

I've Downloaded the 5 ISO's for Suse 9.1 pro , but when I try and boot off cd 1 , it boots but when I choose 'instalation' , it begins to load, detects pci cards etc but stops at a 'kernel panic' after about 20 secs. The install just freezes.

I don't have any checksums to check the ISO (where can I find them) but I thik it's ok.

Is this a common problem or is there something I've missed?

I get the same when I try and do an ftp install and boot fro mthe boot iso.

I get an error while loading saying:

Code:
crc error VFS cannot open root device "NULL" or unknown block

Please append a correct "root"=boot option
