It's available on FTP at ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/suse/i386/8.0/ to save you buying it and finding out you don't like it. Of course, if you do like it you should buy the boxset to support SuSE.
Hi,
I tried MDK8.2,RH 7.3 and SuSe 8.0 and I must say that on my system suse was under the first two..Major objection in my case was the weak DHCP client and the fact that it could not find the correct scanner so it loaded 64 of them..All
the distros that use KDE 3.x.x had problems of hanging the system..Possibly a KDE problem and not Suse..Of the batch redhat and mandrake seemed less buggy...Keep in mind that others will will say otherwise but those were my reactions...All three were good and Linux in general is improving..My advice would be to wait for SuSe 8.1 ..
Again just my 2 cents worth from a non-expert..
Good Luck,
JP
I actually just installed suse 8.0 and posted a message here about dhcp problems. What are you referring to with "weak dhcp client"? Perhaps you can help . Check out my "suse 8.0 dhcp problems" thread.
I have used RH 7.2 and 7.3! I bought and installed SuSE 8.0 Pro and really like it a lot. There are a few things in RH that I liked, but SuSE has been really good also.
In my opinion they both run a pretty close race, but overall I like SuSE better.
I have been using Suse from version 7.0 to 8.0 which I use now. I am very pleased with it. I run it on my desktop (HP) and my laptop (Dell Latitude 500 Mhz) and it works very well. I also run Oracle 9.0.1 on Suse 8.0 although there was some installation problems which I solved by connecting to Suse Support Database and Oracle Metalink. I have installed StarOffice 6.0 and that works fine as well. I have also developed a web-site that uses php, postgresql and apache on my laptop. No problems.
So go ahead and give it a try, you wan't be dissapointed.
