Disk space, in the older versions someone got it to boot just over 1mb but it was not practical to use.

LFS can be whatever you want, because you make the end result.

Yes, with those specs no version of Ubuntu is worth trying.

lfs can be made super tiny and no gui required.

Once it's built, yes. But you need disk space and speed (or time) to build the system in the first place.
