Small Distro on Thin Client Hardware?

Hello. Firstly I'd like to apologise if this is in the wrong forum/sub forum, I'm a total Linux noob and it seemed as though this would be the place to start.

I have recently been given an HP t5500 Thin Client with the following specifications:

733-MHz Transmeta Crusoe TM5800
128 MB of DDR SDRAM2
32 MB of IDE Flash

The 32MB is my only HDD space, though it has USB ports to boot from if necessary. The current OS is Windows CE set up for operating on a network, but that's totally locked up with administrator passwords that nobody seems to know.

Obviously I have no delusions of running a full distro, but I'd quite like to have it in a state where it boots up into either a fullscreen text editor or preferably pyRoom or JDarkRoom.

Considering the only Linux experience I have is with the Ubuntu Netbook Distro and no experience beyond the GUI options it offers me, I have absolutely no idea how/where/who to start. :P

Is this possible? Is it too complex for me to do? Is it worth spending any time investigating?

Sorry if I'm being a complete dolt / missing something bleedingly obvious.

EDIT: Sorry I forgot to mention any installation has to be via USB pen as there's no option for a CD installation.

Welcome nmb!

Not being familiar with your processor, I did a quick Google search for "Transmeta Crusoe TM5800 Linux" and found that Transmeta actually developed their own Linux distro:

http://midori.sourceforge.net/

In terms of more modern distros, the only 2 I know that are smaller than 32mb are SliTaz and TinyCore.

Slitaz may work. Xpud may also. Not sure about all the puppy versions. On a usb flash boot a large number of distro's would work.
