Angry RH 7.2 kernel 2.4.9-21 recompile problems

I'm trying to recompile my kernel and having some difficulties.

I have the following RPMS loaded:

kernel-headers-2.4.9-21.i386.rpm
kernel-source-2.4.9-21.i386.rpm

I then execute the following commands from the /usr/src/linux-2.4 directory:

make mrproper
make xconfig
make dep
make clean
make bzImage
make install
make modules
make modules_install

Runs great no errors.

since I have scsi disks I then run the following command from /boot:

mkinitrd /boot/initrd-2.4.9-21r1.img 2.4.9-21r1

I then add the following entry to the /boot/grub/menu.lst file:

Title New Kernel
root (hd,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.9-21r1 ro root=/dev/md1
initrd /initrd-2.4.9-21r1.img

When I reboot I get the following error:

EXT3-fs: unable to read superblock
EXT2-fs: unable to read superblock
isofs_read_super: bread failed, dev=09:01, iso_blknum=16, block=32
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 09:01

After closer examination it appears that module-info file is needed
for the kernel, as one exists for the default kernel. Am I on the
right track? If so, how do I build this file?

I need an answer fast.

thanks,
bryan

here is a faster way to get the lastest kernel to work. From the shell Type in up2date.
It will ask for a key and then hit OK
then type in up2date again. This will loggin into Redhat Network and update everything that needs to be updated.... This is how I comiple it to 2.4.9.21 all I need to do is compile a customer kernel now......

That's great if the default kernel works for you. Unfortunatly, it doesn't for me. That's why I'm trying to recompile it.
