Red Hat 9.0 and Asus A7N266-VM Lan

Hey all. New to linux and having some difficulties. I just installed Linux 9.0 on my pc that has an Asus motherboard and I can't get it to recognize the ethernet port. The video and sound are working fine though... The cd that came with the motherboard only has drivers for Windows OS and none of the Red Hat included ethernet types are working. Any ideas? Thanks for any help

Have you checked in your BIOS. Not sure, but there might be a switch for it in there, eh?

Otherwise you might look into the tulip driver. Others here can elaborate on that more than me.
Also, have you tried doing a search here for your motherboard model and ethernet? Or, have you searched on www.google.com/linux ?

good luck...

The A7N266-VM is an nForce board, a chipset known throughout the land for its absolutely wonderfull Linux support...

Getting back to reality here, if none of the nVidia RPMs for the nvnet LAN driver work (because you're using a newer version of the kernel than they were compiled for) you're left with little recourse but to download the source manually and compile it yourself.

First, grab the latest nForce driver source tarball and then do the following in a terminal (as root):

Code:
cd /usr/src
tar zxvf /path/to/tarball/NVIDIA_nforce-1.0-0261.tar.gz
cd nforce/nvnet
make && make install
substituting /path/to/tarball for the real path to the tarball. Assuming the compile and install goes without errors (you'll need the kernel source package for the exact kernel you're running for it to work so be sure to grab and install it beforehand) then you should be able use Red Hat's tools to set up and configure the LAN interface.

Thanks for the help guys. I found an rpm that I'm going to attempt to install. Hopefully that will fix it. Lol, I think I'll be over in the newbie forum for a while...
