Didn't realise mint was also a debian based distro. I think I might try pclinuxos which is non debian, see if I get any joy and if not buy a different graphics card.

I'm not a gamer at all really, although having said that I wouldn't mind giving second life a go. Problem is cards aren't very cheap here and the price of one plus a ram upgrade, and I would almost think about upgrading the PC...

It often depends more on the kernel than what distro forms the base. PCLinuxOS is based on Mandriva but the kernel is totally different, thus one can work on a system the other cannot!

As I posted earlier, you may want to try PCLinuxOS mini-me, as it has a more modern kernel, and you can even test whether your graphics card and internet connection can be made to work before you install.

However with mini-me, there's not much software, so once installed, you will need to visit the PCLinuxOS forums, Mini-Me section, to get help as to what software you might want to add to get a fully functioning system.

Don't worry, because all you have to do is run the Synaptic package manager, and all software is added from the internet with a few clicks.

gOS is definitely the best distro there is. Installs like a breeze. Have the Ubuntu power behind. Beautiful Mac like interface (gOS MySpace)... What else do you want/need?
