Problems with RPM in RedHat 8.0

I recently installed RedHat 8.0 and found it to be really nice, however, i am having great difficulty with installing RPMS. Trying to install and rpm with "rpm -i packagename.rpm" will cause rpm to hang just sit there like its doing something... forever. I'd really like to be able to install packages but can't because of this problem. Has anyone seen this anywhere else or know of a way to get around it?

Try rpm -ivh packagename

the v gives you a verbose output so it tells you what it is doing. and the h gives you hashes "#" as it installs so you an see the progress.

Also when it hangs try ctrl-c and see if it gives you the command prompt back.
