new comp, which distro to use?

alright, so i bought this new (old) computer, and i want to put linux on it. i currently have 7 installed, and it's running a tad bit slow.

my question for the masses is what distro will run smoothley on a 350 megahertz Dell poweredge 2300 server?

i'm not really looking for anything that does a hundered different things i don't need, and nothing that takes up a ton of space, it currently has only 8 working GB of space. i just want to be able to explore linux and see how it works better.

i'm thinking slackware, but i might try suse. any opinions?

SuSE 9 is a nice distro. What do you mean "i currently have 7 installed."?
Is that Red Hat 7, or Mandrake 7, or what. There is also a sticky in the forums about how to choose a distro that is worth the read. Distro choices are a matter of personal preference.

Since you already are running one distro, I will just mention that the best way to evaluate othere distros are to try them. Make sure you have enough partitions to try a couple other distros.
When you begin to see how the parts make the whole you can decide the starting line for yourself.
Good Luck.

I'd say try Slackware, Vector (which is based on Slackware), or Libranet. Of those I'd try Vector first.

Or you can try Gentoo if you don't mind waiting a day or two for the bootstrapping process. I installed Gentoo on a 500mhz machine and it took around 15 hours for the bootstrapping process to complete!
