I recently installed mandrake linux 10.1 on a PII 233mHz 256mb computer. Install went fine, first boot went fine, it took me to a login screen and asked for a password and session type but I never set a password in the original setup and it wont let me login. I tried to reinstall but it will not boot from the floppy i used to install the first time. Also i recently found out that it wont startup at all w/o the install disk 1. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If you did not set a password, just press enter and you shoule get logged. I would suggest you set a passsword, pick one you will remember.
If you can not log in with just an enter key, then you need to clear whatever passord you may have set. It may be something like the space bar, or tab key ( you could have pressed one at that point of the install ).
You could also try logging as root. Did you set a password for root? If not, you should. The process for resetting a root password is not so easy. You have to boot to single user mode and edit files with an editor like vi. Post back if you need further help.
