linux distros on laptophj

Hi everybody..

I have a dell lattitude laptop c400..

I have a wlan and a pctel chipset that i want to install on the laptop.
This laptop is mainly for business and some web designing most likely under perl/cgi scrips.

I also like how linux is a bit faster than windows and i want to eventually turn this laptop into full out linux.

But I have problems install the wlan and the modem.

I've tred to run red hat enterprise on it.. as popular as it is but there's something i dont like about it.

I am a noob..

Can anyone advise me on a distrobution according to the above criterea.
