I downloaded Knoppix v3.3 recently (I just wanted to try it out, along with some other distro's of Linux) but when I boot I get about 3 errors that all start similar to this: "cloop:error -3 uncompressing block xxxxxxx" etc. I also downloaded a variation called Penguin Sleuth, and it comes up with something like 15 or 20 similar errors of the same nature. I thought I had a bad iso or bad burn, so I checked the md5, and the Sleuth iso was bad, but the Knoppix was ok. I re-downloaded Sleuth iso, re-burned from the same CD drive, same problems. So I tried another burner. Same problem. The Knoppix will load, even with these errors, but the browser window that opens when KDE finally loads is supposed to have some kind of welcome screen (I'm guessing?) just comes with this a "file can't be found" error, or something similar. Sleuth actually encounters a kernel panic error, sleeping for 30 seconds, where I then have to reboot.
Can anyone tell me what these errors mean? Is it because I'm burning to a CDRW instead of CDR? I burned my RH 9 to 3 CDRW and they worked ok (Failed (fatally) on the first install, checked discs, came out ok, second install worked fine). I burned Knoppix STD a while back and I don't have any of these errors. Thanks for any help.
Yes, it's probably because you're burning to CDRW. Try burning to CDR instead. Remember, Knoppix's CD filesystem is extremely compressed, and that may be a factor with the CDRW disc.
That's strange. I'm sure I replied about trying the CDR and even spell checking it. But it's not here now. Well, anyways, I burned it to CDR and both disks work great now. Maybe I'm just stupid, but I thought I'd get an error burning it to CDRW if it didn't have enough room. Also, I was hoping that if I didn't like them or had a problem burning the iso's I could just erase and start over. Hopefully this will help someone else. Thanks for the help Spurious.
