KDEInit could not launch '/usr/bin/autorun' in Manrake 9.0

Hi there,

This is my first try here in LinuxQuestions.

I have just installed Mandrake 9.0 (apparently succesfully).
But then, when I login as usual user, there comes the message:

KDEInit could not launch '/usr/bin/autorun'

and the lower panel does not show any icons or menus at all... When I try to use GNOME, I don't have any icons on the panel either... I checked the directory /usr/bin and there was, in fact, no file called autorun there...

On the other hand, if I login as root, everything seems to work fine: my (root) panel has the enabled KDE icon, from which I can access the various applications...

Could you help me fix this???

Regards!

I'm not quite sure what's going on there. However, one solution might be to simply go to Configuration - Other - Userdrake, and add another user, accepting all the defaults. Log out and then in as the new user. See if you get the same problems. If not, migrate to this user and delete the other one. In the distant past, using a Marble theme in KDE 2 caused me similar problems that I sorted out in this way.

Hi, I have just done it
And you know what!?

1. It is crashed. KDE doesn't start, WindowMaker doesn't start etc.. only failsafe and IceWM do but with lots of problems. Summary: applications do not start.
2. The user which I have deleted have stacked somewhere in the system. Namely, when the Lilo login comes up there is that non-existent user's login preselected!
3. The names of the users which show up in the Lilo login window are not the ones I just created, but some of the users which had been on the system two weeks ago. I have no idea where that comes from, because there are no their home folders whatsoever left.

I first checked that everything works under the new user before I deleted the old one. Indeed, it worked well.

Apparently my mistake was that I deleted an old user being logged-in as that user, but, anyway you do user-deletion as root. So, what's up?

Well all is backed up - no loss of data, but, OK, what's up? I feel like reinstalling a whole system is just easier, isn't it?

Well, well, pazienza...
