Question Is there ANY Linux version that is able to run on 8086?

I found one hellova old laptop (Compaq T1000SE) with 2 megs ram and very little space left.
It is well known fact that there is hundreds of version of Linux, but is any able to run on so old system?
It has now DOS 3.1.

If MS DOS is able to do it, why not Linux!

In a word, no. That said there may be some Unix-like OS that runs on such a minimal processor -- maybe Minix, or something.

Unhappy

...
Time to make own version, going to call it "Micrux" or "ULinux
(UltimateLightLinux)", and it's maybe going to have only these apps:
-bash
-some older (thus lighter) kernel. Maybe 1.xx. You name it!
-only necessary man pages
-cat
-less
-su
-that simpler math program
-some light C compiler

Net is not necessary, and I can forget about GUI

I'm maybe going to dedicate new website for my chosen path.
Anyone is free to join my project!!!

Try checking around in google/linux. I'm pretty sure that someone has started some really low end Unix-like project already.

I think you mean to say the Toshiba T1000SE. I know that laptop, it was sweet in its day. There IS a version of linux that will run on it. It is called ELKS (Embeddable Linux Kernel Subset). It's not full blown linux in any sense but it works. I don't know how practical it would be for you. I tried it out over a year ago on my Zenith SuperSport 286e. I was impressed and supposedly it has come a lot futher since. Check this out:

http://elks.sourceforge.net/

Have fun and good luck.

Thanks Zopito, I hope it will work there.

And yes, it's Toshiba
Not sure was Compaq even founded back then.

Do you have any idea how valuable those are nowadays, as I'm going to get one with 15€.
