Installing Gentoo for the first time

I am installing gentoo on a p3 600 I am using a rc2 stage 2 Pentium 3 live cd

When I boot I can ping www.google.com and I can browse using lynx

I think I am good to go with my network

So I go on to the next step.

every thing goes good until i type env-update

I get this message /etc/make.profile isn't available; and 'emerge sync' will probably fix it

I tride typing emerge synce but that does not solve the problem.

I am doing this at school so I have to go through a fire wall could this be the problem or did I have to set up my network.

it is not a problem, just a standard message. just ignore it. and it obviosuly says "emerge sync" not "emerge synce" anyway.
