Red Hat 8.1, codenamed Phoebe, was really the beta for what eventually became Red Hat 9.0, it wasn't released in a "boxed" version like 8.0 or 9.0. I see the same thing will happen with Severn, it's a 9.1 beta that'll eventually become 10.0.

edit: As to the subject at hand, if you're looking for something to switch to after Red Hat, try Slackware or Gentoo. That's what I did and I haven't once even considered putting Red Hat back on.
