Well, I mean, OP asked about wine. It so happens that this is a subject with which I am quite familiar, having first used wine in 1999 and also having used it on numerous systems and Linux installations over the intervening years. So, in the spirit of this forum I thought I'd share some knowledge.

I'll also share some facts about Conty.sh, of which you seem to be unaware:
1. The builder & maintainer is a member here at LQ. He doesn't seem to post much, but as recently as last week was seen answering questions about Conty.sh here.
2. Conty.sh isn't a script. It's a static binary container. It doesn't install anything. It contains everything it needs to run, making it quite portable.
3. It runs without root privileges. You can download it & run it as a user. The level of 'sandboxing' is adjustable... but if you were anxious about it, you could easily add a new user account just for this purpose and block it's internet access.

You're right in that it isn't officially part of any distro... but I've been running it for the best part of 3 years with excellent results, which is why I recommend it every time this question is asked. Kron4ek makes the source available, and on the github page even tells you how to build it yourself if you're so inclined.

I've been managing wine myself this whole time. That's not the issue. It's a series of smaller problems like being spammed with runtime errors whenever I launch games and compatibility issues with other types of things I'm trying to do which has left me with needing to revive my old Windows PC just for those things in the near future. There's also the fact that Debian is notorious for falling behind on versions of wine and can limit me even more for things like winetricks (which currently throws errors because wine is out of date).

*Ultimately, I need to wipe regardless to clean up any mistakes I made before that I might not find so easily at the moment. Whether I use Debian still or an alternative, still not sure. Hardware arrives in a week though.

You will probably be able to emulate most of those old Windows games via Wine.
I learned a few operating systems and I usually see which one works best for the hardware and for the specific purpose.

The best thing to do is to try other distributions until you find one that you are happy with.
