How do I change the bash prompt in SuSE 8.2


Hi all,

When I log in (init3) I get the prompt
bash-2.05
if I cd somewhere, th prompt does not change ie:
linux:~ # cd /usr/
linux:/usr #
how do I make it do this? Thank You

Hi,

Put the following into ~/.bashrc

export PS1 = 'linux:\w # '

The \w is the working directory. There's other stuff you can put in too, \h is the host, \u is the user and so on. Not sure where the full list is, probably under "man bash".
