In general, I unmerge the blockers, which are later emerged during the update. It would be helpful if you could post the blocked packages though. Run: emerge -vauD world & post the blocking package output from that. Whatever you do, DO NOT EVER unmerge portage or python.
So in short:
0 ALWAYS use emerge -vauD world not emerge -uD world (man emerge)
1 Post the blocked packages here for us to look at.
2 Check the sabayon forums for similar reports.
3 Check forums.gentoo.org for similar reports.
4 Feeling lucky? Just unmerge the blockers (emerge -aC <packages>) and emerge -vauD world after that, just remember to keep the names of what you unmerged around in case they don't get pulled in with the update.
thanks for your reply. your post is a real help.
right now i am emerge -e system after some struggles with blocked issue, i managed to mask packages that caused blocking but did not remove any packages just to be in a safe side; i hope.
i will follow you instruction when -e system is finished. but another question: which is preferable, emerge unmerge <packagename> or emerge -C <packagename>.
Hi,
these are the packages blocked. i am afraid some of them are critical to the system.
