Distro for developer

Hello,

which distro would you suggest for programming? I mostly use C/C++ and Java. I also do android programming...
It's better to choose a distribution with a big community.
Should it be a rolling release distro?
Thank you

Hello

Arch is a rolling release distro that seems to have a Development focused community.

Having said this I think you could contribute to any community as a developer. Slack, Ubuntu, Fredora etc. So I guess you need to try some as its a case of personal preferance.

I'm really enjoying my arch experiance

Good luck

I presume you're not asking about programming for the distribution (as in developing for gnome or KDE or packaging for a distro).

My feeling is it doesn't make too much difference. You know which languages you work in, I presume you know what platforms and toolkits you want to target. Are you fixed on a particular IDE? Such as Eclipse, which afaics is the main one the Android community promotes.

Eclipse runs on any distro. Geany and gedit and so on just need GTK+ and bits of gnome; Kate etc just need KDE. And every distro has build-essential or the components that constitute it.

I suppose it might matter if some distros are quicker at packaging new versions of Eclipse or whatever you use ... but for my taste I get Eclipse directly not through a package.

I think it's better to have a ready to use distro, so I can focus more on programming and not tinkering with linux...
Between fedora and ubuntu which would you choose?

I'm already using Ubuntu so I'd stick with it Don't know enough about Fedora. But Mint is worth considering, for minimal tinkering.
