Hi all,
I have just installed Backtrack 5 R2 32Bit Gnome. After install On my Acer Aspire [Laptop], i am greeted with the standard startup screen and then i get the Backtrack Splash Screen and then the monitor goes black. At first i thought that the screen was just an empty terminal, but after i stuck a powerful flashlight to the screen i can see that the display is active, the backlight for the LCD has simply shut off and i cannot seem to restart the backlight or stop it from shutting off. The odd thing is that if i boot with another lcd monitor plugged into the on board VGA slot, i can see everything and X starts properly etc etc. I have a feeling its a config issue with the built in monitor on the aspire, but i dont know how to fix it. If anyone knows a terminal command to turn on the backlight (If one even exists...), that would be good so i can turn it on every time, but a fix would be better.
Ok everyone after further examination i have discovered it isnt backtrack specific, i think its something to do with kernel 2.6.38+ I have started a new thread here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...37#post4538637
PLEASE post any further replies there. If the mods could delete this thread for me i would greatly appreciate it.

Hello friend,
I had some problems with Backtrack GUI interface too. I'm not sure if it's the one, but here's what I've done:
In text mode login as 'root' (the default password is 'toor') and run 'fix-splash'. After that everything worked fine...
