I'll suggest MEPIS.

A lot of hype about mepis lately. I guess I will have to try it. It is Debian based, unlike Arch, but I agree with shadowhunter, Arch is great.

I was going to try it earlier but I was stung by the faulty beta on the mepis mirrors. To get a working copy of beta 04 you need to get it directly from the mepis site.

I like Knoppix. It was very easy to play with before installing, and it found all of my hardware easily. I like KDE better than Gnome, so I don't really know what it has for Gnome. But I do like it's ease of use and configuation.

Ozar, or anyone, which version are you using? I am downloading the one named mepis-2004.05.b04.cd1 right now... Is the beta buggy?

Make sure that beta 4 is 709,754,880 in size because they had a problem with the ftp sync being 1,500 to short. If it is not 709,754,880 then download beta 3 which works great! From what I hear beta 4 works without a hitch too.

I'm trying to get mepis beta4. It downloaded fine, and is the right size, but when I try to burn it with Nero, Nero tells me there is something wrong with it. Is there something wrong with it? Nero says I can ignore and burn anyway. I got it from a mepis mirror, the gatech one.

Maybe your nero doesnt support .iso burning, try using CD Burner XP Pro. Its freeware and a fast cd burner that can burn .iso files.

Actually I found my answer.. it is a bad file. All of the beta 4 files at ibibilio and gatech are bad. And since they have been distributing, these files are probably popping up elsewhere. So i'm going to try beta 3... But thanks!
