Ark Linux – How about a forum for this up and coming?

Ark Linux 1.0 alpha 10.1 arklinux.org

I'd like to hear some oppinions in reguards to this distro I've been using and watching reviews on. So far it seems very good. Free, unlike Lindows & XandrOS but from what I'm seeing so far every bit as easy if not easier with it's versitility still intact for the tweekers.

This desktop distribution is currently in alpha10 phase but I’ve been using it for about a week now on both my desktop and spare Laptop. It has impressed me greatly. Even in Alpha phase I’ve found it to be one of (if not thee) easiest and practical packaged release for s yet. And it is free. Versatile with a lot of room to grow. One CD install 3 initial questions and 20min install time while playing tetris and Walla, KDE GUI complete with Open Office, USB support, K3b CD writing, Gimp 1.3, Konqueror 3.1.4 very nice, many games (including TuxRacer), Auto media mounting, and Virtually everything you need to go strait to work.
The “Mission Control (system setting)” panel fully resembles WindowsXP Control Panel and so far, it’s just as easy to setup your system. It does have a link inside to the KDE Control center if you prefer. It’s uses Synaptic RPM installer dubbed “Install Software” but I prefer to use under “advanced settings” Kpackage.
Using Grub it supposedly can coexist with windows but I’ve not yet tested this.

Final note: Remember one important thing – It’s in ALPHA phase! So expect some anomalies. But my first impression is it’s virtually out of the box complete and I’m having a good time using it so far. It really seems worth a look. Just goto arklinux.org and see for yourself. And if your better at this stuff then me maybe you can help me figure out this video install issue. Oh and do NOT do a full System install on a PC that has data you want to keep. the install doesn't prompt for patitioning info

Nice advertisement.

So you are saying that it will partition your whole drive without a prompt So you can't partition your drive the way you want to? I will have to find an old hardrive and check it out, I guess.

"So you are saying that it will partition your whole drive without a prompt"

Not exactly. There are three install options in Ark:

1. System Install: This will use your entire hard disk.
2. Express Install: This will use unpartitioned space.
3. Parallel Install: This will resize a DOS or Windows partition to make room for Ark Linux while leaving your data intact.

So when he says not to do a full System install, he means don't use the first type of installation, since it wipes the whole drive.

They really made the installer a little too simple in this case. They are working on a new installer to deal with this and a few other issues. It should be included either with the next alpha release, or the release after, depending on when it's ready.
