anyone know the most popular/fastest growing linux distro in africa?

i do a google search about african linux distrobution, and i get both Unbutu and OpenLab4 listed. and maybe others that aren't even talked about.

anyone know or can point me in the right direction?

interested in the whole continent, if possible, but west africa (ghana, liberia, nigeria) in particular.

I don't have any stats, but in Zimbabwe, Suse and Fedora Core seem to be the most popular. Ubuntu is not as popular because it ships with very few packages compared to Suse and Fedora so its difficult for people using dial up connections to get all the packages they require.

As for official stats for the whole continent, I don't think you will find anything really helpful because Linux useage is not well monitored in Africa (South Africa seems to be an exception).

OK, Thanks. Yeah, well, what about the "African linux distro" is that supposed to be open lab or unbuntu? have you heard of open lab? what make this the "african linux distro"?

The ones I know are Impi and Openlab. I am not sure if Impi is still fully functional because their websites have been down for a while and there was talk of integrating with Ubuntu at some point, but I don't know the outcome of this. Personally I wouldn't say Ubuntu is an African distro, most of the developers are based outside Africa although the funding does come from an African guy. A few guys from Zim had been working on a Fedora Core based distro, but I don't know what was the outcome.
