okay, so I've downloaded and extracted amaroK.... but now what?....
should I just be able to click on somethign and it opens and runs the install? or what? I'm so frustrated! hah

what have you downloaded, the source code?, if your a newbie i would try getting a package for your distro, what distro are you using?
