I want to switch to Xubuntu rather than Kubuntu but the one thing that holds me back is no thumbnails for .cbz or .cbr. My netbook is used JUST for comic reading really and my library is extensive, is there a script i can add or a mime entry? Its really bugging me and theres been no luck on all xfce distros without installing nautilus and frankly if i'm doing that then may as well just run ubuntu (but rather not)
Cheers all.
Or possibly thunar-thumbanilers (yeah, I know it says 'And in the near future, hopefully: Digital Comic (CBZ, CBR)). If it doesnt work, you can bug the dev to add that feature. *** In my experience with devs, its always good to tell them you like and use the project, but you feel that adding feature XXXXX would make it even better. ***
Sadly theres been no change there, installing comix does install the comic thumbs but somethings missing in xubuntu/thunar, it just doesn't seem to call on a program to create the thumbnails. In gnome evince does the thumbnails but even if i change the mimetype to call the application comix or mcomix or evince it still doesn't seem to display thumbnails. Bizarre.
Ok, if theres anyone out there who can help with this heres what i've done,
running xubuntu 12.10 -
have installed comix (has comic thumbs), mcomix, tumbler and tumbler extras also evince (thumbnailer for nautilus .cbz it seems)
have used settings manager to change the mimetype to each of the programs above (restarted and cleared .thumbnails after each change)
have triple checked that thunar is set to preview and also icons.
tried doing the move thunar config to config.bak and restart.
The current workaround - open comix, import library into comix and when i want to browse covers use the library function...which shows me covers but no names...
what i'm after is the ability nautilus has to open a folder, it generates the thumbs and bingo i have covers and names.
I'm fine with running a script for instance that whenever i add new content it generates the thumbnails but sadly my scripting knowledge is extremely sub par. (and what program to call?)
Really need some help folks.
Thanks for your time ^^
Sadly this topic seems dead. If you are looking at Xubuntu and are an avid comic fan that uses .cbz and .cbr then move to a different distro. Theres been no change to this problem for about the last 3 years of people asking/trying to find solutions. I'm marking it down as unresolvable unless someone can post an answer.
Nautilus and dolphin handle them just fine but thunars a no-go. Nautilus running in Xubuntu doesn't seem to do the thumbnails either, sorry I couldn't find an answer folks.
