Unhappy Xfce4 - three quarters of the display is inactive with an 'X'

I don't know how to put this better. I'm using Fedora 28 and have installed the xfce4 environment. When I log in to it, only one quarter of the display is active, the rest is black with an 'X' mouse icon.
See for yourself:

I tried changing the resolution but the problem persists. Do you guys know how to fix this?

Are you able to open an XTerm and provide us output from these commands?
Code:
# inxi -Gxx
# xrandr
If copy and paste is an obstacle you can redirect their output to a file, then copy the file somewhere where you can better work with it, such as a USB stick and another computer.
