xfce seems to hang when starting..

using xfce 4.4.2 on X v7.3.

Code:
[root@localhost ~]# X -version

X Window System Version 1.3.0
Release Date: 19 April 2007
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 1.3
Build Operating System: Fedora Core 7 Red Hat, Inc.
Current Operating System: Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.24.4-64.fc8 #1 SMP Sat Mar 29 09:02:14 EDT 2008 i686
Build Date: 17 October 2007
Build ID: xorg-x11-server 1.3.0.0-33.fc8
        Before reporting problems, check http://wiki.x.org
        to make sure that you have the latest version.
Module Loader present

when logging in, the splash screen appears and when "Starting Thunar" appears on the splash, a 9 second hang occurs, then "Starting Desktop" and the desktop appears, after which no problems are encountered and the system feels responsive and normal.

Similar report here: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/7447

What I have found is that if I deselect "Allow xfce to manage your desktop" in Settings->Desktop Settings, then the problem disappears but I have no desktop icons and background and the context (right mouse button) is ineffectual when clicked anywhere on the desktop (outside of a window).

Could it be that it is actually xfdesktop taking a long time to start??

Any ideas where I can start looking - a log or something? Is there a log for the session login?

Solved!

Remove Thunar daemon from startup...

The default startup for an xfce4-session is in /etc/xdg/xfce4-session/xfce4-session.rc

Comment out the Thunar line. Not sure what the benefit of the line is, because commented out, xfce4 sessions start up very quickly now and no visible impact on Thunar or the rest of the desktop.

Code:
$ cat /etc/xdg/xfce4-session/xfce4-session.rc
# $Id: xfce4-session.rc 23542 2006-10-28 13:23:00Z benny $
