Which Ubuntu sub-version?

Hi. I am new to these forums, and somewhat new to linux (~1 year experience with it). I need to do some video editing for a school project and was wondering if I should just use regular Ubuntu and download some video editing software or go with Ubuntu Studio? System specs:

Memory (RAM): 3072 MB
CPU Info: Pentium Dual-Core CPU E6600 @ 3.06GHz
CPU Speed: 3058.8 MHz
Sound Card: Speakers (Realtek High Definition)
Display Adapters: ATI Radeon HD 5400 Series
Screen Resolution: 1280 X 1024 - 32 bit
Hard Disks: C: 933.8GB

I use xubuntu and have already made some videoediting with programs like Openshot video editor.

Installing software in ubuntu is so easy task if you know what to look for.

I've used Ubuntu in the past, so I know how easy it is to install anything. I'm kind of wondering if it might be better to have the offline backup (live CD with all the programs I need), or if it's just a waste of a perfectly good DVD-R (Studio).

1. There is no such thing as too many backups. I've had two laptops stolen (years ago) and one hard drive develop the whirries and give up the ghost. There is no such thing as too many backups. Blank DVD's are cheap. Your work and effort are not.

2. Klaatu (his nom-de-podcast), a multi-media professional, likes Blender for editing video. He discusses it in podcast episode 3x08 at this link. I've never used anything more complicated than avidemux for some very simple editing and mencoder and ffmpeg for conversions.
