usb disk un-mounts while copuing data - kubuntu 8.04 kde 3.5.9

Hello,
I have a very strange problem with my fat32 formatted 8GB OCZ usb disk.

I mount the disk or by clicking the icon (media-applet 1.0) or by using the command mount /dev/sdc1 /media/usbdisk. This works.
But when I try to copy data to the disk the task stops suddenly at some point saying that it could not find the media anymore?!
The copy job has been half done at that point.

I tried a checkdisk om the usb and reformatted the usb disk. But this doesn't solve the problem. I did not have this problem before.
Does anyone recognise this problem? Is there a solution? Can anyone help me?
Bart
