You need to provide a bit more info if you want to get help e.g. what Linux distribution you are running, when exactly the error happens and the detailed error message.
Suggestion: Log out of X, delete your desktop configuration files with "rm -rf .nautilus .gconf .gconfd .gnome .gnome2", then start X again. This will replace your personalized configuration with a default configuration, which may fix the problem. On second thought, instead of deleting those directories, you could just rename them so you can restore them later, in case my suggestion doesn't help.
