Hi and welcome to LQ.

You need to provide a bit more info if you want to get help e.g. what Linux distribution you are running, when exactly the error happens and the detailed error message.

urgent Desktop crash
This means:
  1. My urgent desktop crashed (into what?)
  2. There was an urgent crash involving my desktop (eg maybe something ran into it)
  3. ???
Aside from semantics, perhaps we need a dialog box in which people can summarize why something is urgent.....

Suggestion: Log out of X, delete your desktop configuration files with "rm -rf .nautilus .gconf .gconfd .gnome .gnome2", then start X again. This will replace your personalized configuration with a default configuration, which may fix the problem. On second thought, instead of deleting those directories, you could just rename them so you can restore them later, in case my suggestion doesn't help.
