Ubuntu dual desktop with a Dell SE198WFPf

Hi,

I've connected my monitor to my laptop running Kubuntu, and fired up KControl to get my second monitor up. I don't mind even if it's just cloning, but I'd like this second display up (the laptop monitor is too small).

But the screen just stays black, and Kubuntu is unable to detect it. It doesn't even seem to be able to auto-detect that the display is widescreen as the SE198WFPf are.

Any ideas on how to get this up and running? I've Google'ed around, but to no avail.

Thanks in advance!

- Ifty.

Hah, okay, I don't know how this thing works... but I'm really creeped out.

So I actually tried restarting X Windows as the dialog box says on KControl when you've made changes that require it.

X completely crashed and wouldn't start up. So I restarted with my Kubuntu CD, and Google'ed it to no avail. Got an idea of my own to run "dexconf" to restore settings.

Restarted... and now what's happened is my second display works just fine, but my primary display is now out of commission.

Man, playing with X Windows is so traumatizing. I hope they figure out the fundamentals for this soon, so that users don't have to go through so much hell just to get up a second display!

Well, it's good for now. Thanks anyway. Any comments/discussions would be nice.
