Ubuntu 18.04.01 does not keep display resolution in VM

Hi,

a while ago I installed Ubuntu 16.04 in a VM (under VMware Workstation 12.5.9) with vmware-tools.
Two weeks ago I did a release-upgrade to 18.04.01 an since then, the GUI always comes up with a resolution of 800x600 after reboot. I can set it to 1440x900, but after reboot I have 800x600 again.
Maximizing the VMware Workstation window also maximizes the displaysize in the client.
vmware-tools are installed again.
Had no problems with 16.04 though...

Any clues?

Cheers
Rainer
