I have strange issue with the Plasma menu on Mageia v. 7. There's a "ghost" item in the favorites for Firefox, in addition to the active functioning Firefox icon. (I haven't noticed it before because I mostly use Fluxbox.)
It's icon is blank. When I right-click on it, the option to remove it does not appear, as it normally would for a "Favorite." When I select "Edit," the edit dialog points to a version of Firefox that does not exist on my system. When I right-click on the menu icon and select "Edit Applications," I cannot edit it, as it does not seem to exist in the menu and "Favorites" are not included in the edit routine.
Sometimes all it takes to make Plasma strangeness go away is to log out of Plasma, delete the plasma/kde/qt content from ~/.cache/, then log back into plasma. With taskbar or menus problems, it's often necessary to delete ~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.kesktop-appletsrc also.
It's location is /home/frankbell/.local/share/applications
Any shortcut (userapp-Firefox-FBG6CZ.desktop) file in that location will show up in the menu. It's probably blank because the path to the icon doesn't exist anymore or never included.
Logged out of and back into Plasma. The bottom of the two Firefox icons now showed the Firefox icon, rather than the blank rectangle.
I switched from the "application menu" to the "application launcher" interface. Still two Firefox icons.
In the menu, I navigated to Internet-->Firefox and right-clicked it to bring up the "Edit" dialog. I unchecked the "Show in favorites" item and one of the Firefox icons disappeared from the Favorites, while the other remained. I then switched back to the "application menu" and everything was still okay.
So it seems to be fixed, but I'm still confused. I'm confident that I didn't add Firefox to the Favorites twice, but that's not the sort of thing one logs in one's diary, is it?
Again, thanks for the suggestions. They set me on the right track.
