Spellcheck in a second language in OpenOffice

I installed Ubuntu on my desktop computer and have started using it for everyday tasks. The installation is in Swedish, and I can get the Swedish spell checker to work, but when trying to change the language of my document to English it won't work.

How do I get spell checker in a second language?

You haven't told us your version of openoffice. You will need a recent one to do this the easy way:

Open up openoffice writer. Choose File - Wizards - install new dictionaries...

select the ones you want ... install and restart openoffice ...

You can now set text to English, either by selecting the text and setting it to English (right click on selected text - character ... change language) or sometimes by clicking on an English word and selecting ... is English.
