Sound not working on multiple windows

Hello,

My problem is that sound is only working in one application at the time. For example i have banshee and a youtube page running at the same time. Well let's say i've opened banshee first. Then i'll still have the music of banshee playing when i run a youtube video, but there will be no sound coming from youtube. Then if i quit banshee and reload the youtube page, there's sound again on the video.

So i wanted to ask if it was a kernel problem from linux, or if was just me who missed installing something (like some alsa or gstreamer things).

Thanks and please ask if you need more info.

PS: I'm running gnome on Archlinux

Hi,

yes, this is quite a commom problem, and there are two solutions : one is called pulseaudio (archwiki).
The second is dmix (archwiki), which I prefer, but is a little more complex to setup. Also dmix should be enabled by default on 2.0 stereo outputs.

Just out of curiosity : does using two applications which are not flash (or skype or anything proprietary) at the same time work?
