Scanner Stopped Working

Hi !

I have a desktop working on CentOS 5.4. I installed HP MFP m1005 using hplip version 2.8.10 from HP's web site. The PC and MFP were working absolutely fine since last one year.Just two days back, the scanner refused to work - while invoking scan option from hp printer management icon,it started giving error:

can not open device < device address>

Whereas the printing still works fine.

Can some one guide on how to resolve ?

Are there any messages in the syslog that might point to some problems. My brothers multifunction scanner/printer quit the other direction. The printer doesn't work anymore, but the scanning works fine. So it may be a hardware failure. I would check around for some logs. Maybe try removing and reinstalling the scanner/printer and driver.

Hello rajesh.bahl,

did you change something in your configuration? One problem may occur with those multifunction-devices if the user isn't member of the lp group.
Does "scanimage -L" find the scanner if executed as root?
