Perpetual dual boot fail. Boot Rescue fixes one not both.

Hi all, I know dual boot threads are quite common but I've tried a few ways to resolve without success.

I dual boot Windows 7 and Linux Mint and usually never have any issues. What changed is my W7 got infected, I was unable to resolve so I restored from a backup image rather than a fresh install.

Mint would not boot, I tried using a live disc but the easiest way to boot was to use rescue boot media on a USB key. This gave tonnes of options and listed numerous boot settings it found. I can select which OS to boot and can start either no issue.

Once in Mint I tried Boot Repair auto but this only fixed Linux, then I couldn't boot windows. I repair Windows boot then Linux won't start so I have a constant issue of fixing one and not the other. I think I need to wipe all boot settings and reset for Linux Mint and Windows only I don't know how to do this?

Windows is on sda and Linux is on sdf(5). If I need to run some bash commands to output settings please. Do you need #df?

Many thanks in advance

See if bootinfoscript is in the Mint repos, and install and run it. If not, go here and do as it says. Post the RESULTS.txt.

Oops - if you used boot repair you should have a link with all that info, just post that link.

Looks like you don't have os-prober installed (properly). Make sure it is and run it - it should list Win7. If so just re-install grub to /dev/sda, and it should pick up Windoze ok.

Windows is on sda and Linux is on sdf(5)
Your bootinfo output disagrees showing Mint (the only Linux partition on all 6 of your drives) as being on sdg5. You have Grub installed in the MBR of 4 of the 6 drives with windows code in the other 2. If you are now able to boot Mint and have already tried running sudo update-grub with all drives attached, then you probably need os-prober installed as suggested above because you obviously don't have a windows entry in the grub.cfg file. If you then set sdg to first boot priority you should not need to reinstall Grub but that would depend upon which drives you always have attached?

Thanks all, as advised, I used boot repair to put grub onto sda and then when I rebooted (no windows option) I simply typed sudo update-grub and this worked a treat!
