That question is a bit like asking the question 'What is the difference between a Toyota and a Honda?'; they are both cars, but every part is different (unless you fit the same tyres or windscreen wipers).
Also, openSUSE is a consumer/end user distro and Red Hat is an enterprise distro, so SLES would be more directly comparable. Not that this seems to really be the point that interests you...

Up to a point. If it is a GUI app (and that makes a difference) and it uses something like Qt or Gtk, and you have compatible versions, then your only problem is installing. If you aren't using a toolkit, then you are more worried about underlying libraries.
With something like RH having a long lifetime, you could be considering what would normally be considered quite out of date software; it will have some fixes backported to it (or, possibly not, depending on how well sys admin is done at that site), so it could get a bit involved, unless you are prepared to make further restrictions.
