Multiple Workspaces Gnome KDE

hello

i am currently running gnome and would like to know if there is a way to show different icons in each workspace, in gnome or any other desktop. currently all workspaces contain the same desktop, the same panels, the same icons, and the same menus. on a sunos platform different icons can be displayed on each workspace.

tia,
mike

I don't think its currently possible on GNOME (or KDE for that matter). Many people seem to be interested in such a feature so maybe one of the main Linux DEs will introduce it at some point.

Different Icons on Different Desktops

I have been looking for the same feature for years. This would be great, so then I could really "theme" each desktop for there specific function.

I have ever looked into posting this as a request for the KDE development team, but I am not too sure where I should post such a request (any suggestions welcome).

Is this a more fundamental issue as it appears to be not possible in Gnome or KDE ?

I went to the KDE bug tracking system and found some feature requests that seem to relate to my question above. Check out bug number 79531, and bug 16187 might be saying something similar.
