Keyboard language over VNC

Hi,

I've got the following setup:
VPS server, using Debian 8 with xfce4.
I'm using tightvnc to connect to 5 different desktops (displays) with different users.

I require a German, French & English keyboard but I can't understand how to add them...
English works fine , its the default, what do I do with the rest?

Here is a screenshot of the VNC https://s16.postimg.org/ooha1jrad/Capturevnc.png

Google is your friend, enter "change language Debian" into google.

If only it was that easy...

I added both languages (DE I already had) but I still can't write in German or France. (I have both languages in my local machine).
I added "Keyboard Layout" to the panels and as you can see in the screenshot, it only gives me an option for "US" layout without option to add any more.

Perhaps you have to install the whole OS in a different language. I have never used Debian or installed in a language other than English but the first option in the Anaconda installer for Fedora and CentOS is to select the installation language in the GUI from a very long list. Perhaps selecting the installation language at OS install time is the only time you get to select the language used. Perhaps "it only gives me an option for "US" layout without option to add any more" simply because you selected US English at installation time.

I don't know what the Debian installer looks like but there may be a language selection option right at the beginning. If there is you should do a test installation in another language either in a virtual machine or on a spare machine.

You might have to do a different OS installation for each language.

Also French is the language. France is a country.

There is absolutely no reason to do a full reinstallation just to change the language. There are literally over 700,000 results in google discussing how to change the preferred language in a Debian installation, if you google "change language debian". If you change the locale, force the setting in the GUI environment (locally) you are using with VNC, then you will have success in remote sessions.

Can you please give me one of the results that looks best to you? I have tried everything I could before opening this case, google was my first choice and when nothing worked I came here.
Please also note I'm not trying to change the language of the debian interface, I'm only trying to add another language to the keyboard so I can write in Germany / French.

I wonder if this is application specific? For example, my mom needed the Spanish dictionary added to her Libre Office apps, and so I installed the needed extensions so that the dictionary would recognize the spelling and what-not. Could this be what you need?

I believe all you have to do is install:

https://packages.debian.org/stretch/xfce4-xkb-plugin

More info about this xfce4 plugin here:

https://goodies.xfce.org/projects/pa...ce4-xkb-plugin

Just be certain you have the right locales installed on your system. This plugin will let you switch between keyboard layouts for different countries. I've never used this plugin before so you will have to just install it and learn to use it without explanation.

I already have xfce4 plugin installed, you can see it in the screenshot I gave a few posts back: https://s15.postimg.org/e0ebdhd3f/de-vnc.png
No options to change layout what so ever.

Is the "locales-all" package on your system???

Here are some more links with instructions discussing locales and keyboard layouts.

https://wiki.debian.org/Locale
https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/d...keyboard_input

This whole page discusses everything regarding keyboards for the Debian distribution:
https://wiki.debian.org/Keyboard
Specifically this part:
https://wiki.debian.org/Keyboard#How...op_environment

I am not sure what answer you are looking for. Short of installing Debian in a virtual machine and following the direction for you.... there isn't anything else I see I can do. You are going to have to put on your thinking cap and take control of your own system to find the solution. Debian as a distribution, likely has the best documentation out there. All you must do is read the Debian wiki and manuals.

wasn't installed, but I installed and tried adding the languages, still no luck.
I have add a small breakthrough (although it doesn't really help me).
I found out that I can write in all the languages that I have installed on my main machine (windows 7) while I'm in "Terminal emulator" in the VNC , but I still can't write in these languages when I'm in the Chromuim browser for example.
